Backups: how to create a database backup

You can create a database backup using the TPX Administrator program or you can do it manually. Both methods are described below.

Creating a backup using the TPX Administrator program

(1) first make sure that nobody is logged into this particular database with the TPX Client program
(2) start the TPX Administrator program
(3) go to the page 'Table management'
(4) select the database, and press the 'Make a backup' button
(5) the 'File Save as' dialog pops up (see below). Specify the name and location of the zip file which will contain your backup. Please make sure that the target location has enough free space (the backup is compressed, around 75% of the total size of the original database will be needed).

(6) click on the 'Save' button
(7) After this, the 'results' field inside the TPX Administrator program will report the progress of the backup (i.e. which file has been added to the backup zip file) as shown below:

(8) When the process is finished, the results field will report 'Backup completed'.

Creating a backup manually

(1) first make sure that nobody is logged into this particular database with the TPX Client program
(2) using a file manager such as the Windows Explorer, copy all the .dat, .blb, .idx and .dbi files from the database directory into a backup directory (please note that any files ending in .idb, bbk and .dbk are internal safety copies; it is not necessary to include these in the backup).
