- Article
- Articles are the text that appears on the right side of the screen when you
select a node. An individual article is limited to 1 Mb (approximately 1
million characters, or about 500 pages). There is no limit to the number of
articles.
- Article-title tab
- This tab, at the bottom of the article area, displays the name of the node.
You can choose to show or hide this tab.
- Automatic formatting
- Automatic formatting removes the extra spaces and returns that occur when
text from a web page or e-mail message is copied to TreePad.
- Child node
- A child node is indented one level lower than the node selected
- Context menu
- When you click with the right mouse button, you get a context menu (also
called a popup menu) of the commands appropriate for the location.
- CSV file
- A CSV file has entries separated by commas. Spreadsheet data can be saved
in this format and imported into TreePad.

- Drag and drop
- To move a selection to another part of the screen, move the cursor to
within the selection, click and hold the left mouse button, and move the cursor
to the new location before releasing the mouse button.
- Exporting
- Exporting moves an article or a subtree to another file, either in text or
HTML form. The article or subtree is not deleted from the current TreePad file.
- File format
- Different programs save their files in different formats. Treepad saves its
files as .hjt files. It can export files in .txt or .html format, and import
files in .txt or .csv format.
- Font
- A font is a set of characters (letters and numbers) with the same style.
Fonts have names, such as "Times New Roman" or "Arial."

- HTML
- HyperText Markup Language is used for documents that will be published on
the Web. It surrounds text with informational "tags" that can be read
by a browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.
- Hyperlink
- A hyperlink is a connection to another part of a file, or to a different
file elsewhere on the computer or the Internet.
- Importing
- Importing into an article inserts a file at the cursor position in the
article area.
- Importing into a tree adds an existing TreePad file or text file as
children of the selected node.

- Link
- A link is a connection to another part of a file, or to a different file
elsewhere on the computer or the Internet.

- Node
- Each individual entry in the tree (left) side of the screen is called a
node. Selecting a node will cause the associated article to appear in the right
side of the screen. There is no limit to the number of nodes in a tree.

- Popup menu
- When you click with the right mouse button, you get a popup menu (also
called a context menu) of the commands appropriate for the location.
- Right click
- To right click, press the right mouse button. This will bring up a popup
menu of commands to choose from.
- Root node
- The first node in a tree or subtree. The root node of a tree is always the
file name.
- Sibling node
- A node at the same level as the selected node.
- Status bar
- The status bar is at the bottom of the screen. If there are unsaved
changes, it displays the message "Changes are not saved." You can
choose to show or hide this bar from the View menu.
- Subtree
- A section of the tree that contains a node and all its children.

- Taskbar
- The bar, usually at the bottom of the screen, that contains the Start
button.
- Tree
- The part of TreePad on the left side of the screen. The tree is made up of
individual nodes arranged in subtrees to organize the information in the
articles. A tree may have any number of subtrees or nodes.

- Wordwrap
- Wordwrap is a feature that automatically breaks a line of text at the right
side of the screen area and starts it again on the next line. Wordwrap can be
turned on or off.
